SAMPLED-DATA CONTROL OF FIXED WING UAV USING SLIDING MODE CONTROLLER

Abstract

The sampled-data control design for the fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has been presented and effectively applied to illustrate the controller’s performance. Being robust and immune to matched uncertainties and exogenous disturbances, sliding mode control (SMC) has opted for the control of UAV. The design of SMC to the system is carried out using two different sampled-data control techniques. First, using emulation technique in which the continuous time system is incorporated to derive sampled-data SMC. In the second approach, the sampled-data SMC is established using approximate discrete-time model (ADTM) of the system. Performance comparison of the aforementioned techniques has been carried out under the effects of wind gust and simulation-based results have been presented using which show the superior performance of the sampled-data SMC using ADTM.
