Abstract

Process Control techniques play an important role for increasing the product quality and production rate of industries while keeping the cost low. Non-dimensional tuning methods have been utilized for designing of decentralized PI (PID) controller for multiple input and multiple-output (MIMO) coupled tank system. In order to reduce the interaction between the system variables, the process is decoupled using a decoupler matrix. The first order plus dead time (FOPDT) model of both configurations i.e. SISO and MIMO for coupled tank system is determined in an open loop. Comparison of the simulated results with the results from an experimental test rig of the coupled tank system is also reported. In order to establish the efficacy of the scheme the proposed decentralized PID scheme is also tested with the biggest log modulus (BLT).
