Policy on Unfair Means

Policy on Using Unfair Means During Examinations at KIET

  • Use of unfair means is considered a very serious offense. Students can be rusticated, suspended or demoted.
  • Cases of cheating or plagiarism shall be referred to the Examination Disciplinary Committee, which shall investigate the matter and recommend necessary action(s). President KIET shall approve the recommendations made.
  • Carrying of mobile phones and any other communication device is strictly prohibited in the examination rooms and shall be confiscated.
  • No student shall be allowed to sit in the examination 10 minutes after the start of the examination.
  • No student shall be allowed to leave the examination room earlier than 20 minutes and 60 minutes after commencement of the Hourly and end-term examinations, respectively.
  • Rules against cheating and plagiarism shall be strictly enforced.
Levels of Offences, Punishments & Authority

Level 2 Getting / giving assistance by exchange of personal items like calculators, etc.; carrying a mobile phone or any other electronic device; repeating Level 1 offences; other offences of similar nature and intensity. Level 2 Getting / giving assistance by exchange of personal items like calculators, etc.; carrying a mobile phone or any other electronic device; repeating Level 1 offences; other offences of similar nature and intensity. "CC" grade (equivalent to "F") in the subject of the exam, with financial penalty. Examination Disciplinary Committee
Level 3 Writing on the desk before the start of the exam; sitting contrary to the seating plan intentionally; being caught talking outside the examination hall during the exam when allowed to step out (e.g. washroom, Administration for a temporary ID card); repeating Level 2 offences; other offences of similar nature and intensity. Cancellation of semester and course; "CC" grade (equivalent to "F") given in all subjects, with financial penalty. Examination Disciplinary Committee
Level 4 Using pre-meditated chits containing helpful material; using a mobile phone / organizer to cheat; carrying helpful material written on hands / arms / calculator; exchanging question papers; other offences of similar nature and intensity. Level 5 Exchanging answer sheets during the examination; writing each other's roll number on one's own answer sheet; replacing answer sheets with other answer sheets not distributed for this exam (e.g. prepared at home or in class); proxy sitting; cheating and being argumentative, rude or aggressive with the invigilator when checked; or whenever decided by the Disciplinary Committee. Policy on Cheating and Related Punishments

  • Ease implementation of punishments related to cheating during exams.
  • Assign authority at various levels.
  • Ensure standardization in punishment regardless of departmental or individual bias.
  • Level 1 is to be implemented by the invigilator.
  • The Controller of Examinations, or an authorized representative, must be contacted for implementation of punishments related to Level 2.
  • Decisions on Levels 2 to 5 can only be taken by convening the Examination Disciplinary Committee. The Controller of Examinations is to be informed immediately and will then convene the committee, consisting of:
  • Director, Registration & Examination (Chairperson)
  • Director of Concerned College (Member)
  • Controller of Examinations (Member)

The recommendations of the Examination Disciplinary Committee are to be put up to President KIET for approval.
