Debate Competition 2023

The KIET Debate Competition 23 took place on May 9, 2023, organized by the KIET Debate Society (CoMS) under the guidance of Ms. Rozina Imtiaz. The event was held at the Karachi Institute of Economics and Technology (KIET) Main Campus, located in Korangi Creek.
The competition commenced with a warm welcome from Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Usaid ur Rehman Usmani, the President of KIET, who graciously greeted all the guests in attendance. Dr. Sajida Parveen, the esteemed Chief Guest, delivered an inspiring address to the participants, setting the tone for the competition. Dr. Adnan Anwar, the Director of CoMS, along with senior faculty members, lent their support and expertise to ensure the success of the event.

Distinguished judges were appointed to evaluate the participants’ skills in both English and Urdu debates. Mr. Syed Umer Ali Kazmi and Ms. Noor us Sabah Tauqeer served as judges for the English Debate, while Dr. Sajida Parveen and Engineer Faizan Khan presided over the Urdu Debate. Mr. Abdul Razzak, the Manager of Marketing at Bismillah H&M Corp, graced the occasion and presented the winning and runner-up prizes to the deserving participants.

Numerous institutions enthusiastically participated in the event, including Muhammad Ali Jinnah University(MAJU), Bahria University(BU), NED University, Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology(SSUET), Karachi Institute of Medical Sciences(KIMS), Jamia Tur Rasheed, Salim Habib University(SHU), Ilma University (IU), Happy Palace, NUML College of Advanced Studies, Sir Jee Institute of Linguistics.

The house leaders for both the English and Urdu debates were selected from KIET, showcasing the talent and commitment of the host institute. The English Debate Competition witnessed Jaweria Anis from Bahria University emerge as the winner, while Abdullah Nouman, also from Bahria University, secured the runner-up position. In the Urdu Debate Competition, Saif ur Rehman from Jamia Tur Rashid claimed the coveted first place, with Muhammad Bin Faisal, also from Jamia Tur Rashid, as the deserving runner-up. The Special Prize for the Urdu and English debate goes to Ahmed Bin Haroon (Jamia Tur Rasheed) and Mahnoor Sultana (College of Advanced Studies).

The closing ceremony was graced by Mr. Raheel Akhtar, who offered valuable guidance and words of wisdom to the participants. Dr. Adnan, the Director of CoMS, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the participants for their dedication and hard work. The event concluded with an uplifting atmosphere as the prizes were distributed among the winners, followed by a delightful refreshment session.

The KIET Debate Competition 23 not only helped foster healthy competition and intellectual growth, but also brought together talented individuals from various institutions to celebrate the art of debating.
