Karachi Institute of Economics & Technology (KIET) was set up by Pakistan Education Foundation (PEF) in 1997 with the focus on Management Sciences, Computer Sciences, Engineering, Arts, Humanities and Media Sciences. Its Board of Governors includes reputable members from industry, academia and high ranking officials of Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

With whom is KIET affiliated?

The Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan recognized the Institute in 1998. KIET is also accredited by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). The Institute received its charter from the Government of Sindh in 2000.

What is ERP means?

ERP means Enterprise Resource Planning. This program is a merger of Management Sciences and Computer Sciences, a new version of Management Information System (MIS).

About Admissions

What is the Admission process?

Admissions are offered twice a year, 1st in May for the Fall term and 2nd in October for the Spring term. The announcements are published in leading newspapers, social media, and official websites. A clear notice of at least 5 weeks is given to the prospective students. Admissions shall be provided on merit determined by past academic performance and admission test scores.

 

 
What is the eligibility criterion for Admission?

Eligibility Criteria for Undergraduate Degree Programs:

Applicants must have 50% (min 60% in case of BE programs) or higher marks in the Intermediate board certificate, marks obtained in 1st year shall be considered for ‘Provisional Admission. Applicants below 50% marks, but meeting the 2nd division criteria in Intermediate may be considered for admission if they score above average in the admission test.

Students of A-Level and other equivalent foreign degrees are required to provide the equivalence document from IBCC within the duration of their first semester.

Eligibility Criteria for Masters Degree Programs:

Applicants must have 50% or higher marks in the Undergraduate degree program. Applicants below 50%, marks but meeting the 2nd division criteria in undergraduate may be considered if they score above average in admission test.

Admission Test

What are the sections examined in the Admission Test?

The admission test is a compulsory requirement; the candidate must pass the admission test with minimum of 40% marks to qualify for the merit list. The following primary elements will be assessed in the online admission test:

  1. Capability in English (Grammar and Comprehension)
  2. Mathematics (Quick Maths and Word Problems)
  3. Physics (for BE programs candidates)
  4. Exposure to IT and Introduction to Computer Sciences (for CS candidates)
  5. IQ and General Knowledge
How many courses are offered in each semester?

Usual workload is 5 courses in Fall and Spring semesters while in Summers it is 2 courses, however student can reduce their course load due to their program and financial difficulties.

 

About Transfer/Exemption of Credits

What is the criterion for transfer of credits hours from other institutes/ universities?

KIET is a chartered institute and accepts credits from all HEC recognized institutes/universities. Candidate must obtain at least 72% marks or a B grade in the equivalent course to apply for transfer/exemption at KIET.

Does KIET offer any discount in fee?

A number of merit scholarships are available. These scholarships are based on performance in each semester. However, students holding exceptionally good academic record or position in national examinations may also be considered for the award of scholarship, right from the beginning of the program. Following policy discounts are offered:

  • FIRST SEMESTER tuition fee waivers: 100% to board toppers, 40% to those who secured >80% in FSc, 20% to those who secured >75% in FSc
  • 85%-20% tuition fee waiver based on past semester GPA
  • 10%-8% tuition fee waiver for government, navy, army employees and their wards
  • 25% tuition fee waiver to sibling of full-time KIET student
  • 6% tuition fee waiver to students of Fazaia Colleges PAF
  • 6% tuition fee waiver to Banking sector employees
  • Need based concessions for deserving students from humble background

 

About Environment and Physical Facilities

How about the infrastructure and environment available at the Institute?

The education complex of the Institute has a custom-built infrastructure that enables professional education in a peaceful environment. Purpose build building structures, open spaces and green lawns, and diversity of students creates stimulating and lively campus environment.

 

How many Computer Labs are there?

The Institute has 22 start-of-the-art computer labs with 18 servers and more than 1200 computer systems with latest configuration of core i7 and i5 processors. A multimedia lab as well as sound & video editing lab with up-to-date equipment is available for animation, graphic designing and motion pictures.

 

Does the institute provide any internet facility to the students?

Yes indeed, Internet and WiFi facility is available across the campus.

 

How many books are there in KIET’s library?

The Institute has well-established and properly organized air-conditioned libraries with large collections of more than 25000 textbooks of the latest edition on Computer Sciences, Management Sciences, Engineering, English language, Mathematics etc.

The institute has a regular transport service from all parts of the city ensuring timely arrival and departure of students.

Over 10000 students have passed out from KIET so far, 19 convocations had been held by the Institute between years 2003 to 2022.

 

What are the class timings?

MORNING PROGRAMS: Mondays to Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm

EVENING PROGRAMS:                Monday to Friday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Saturday from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Sunday from 9.00 am to 6:00 pm
